Hey Ken- Like Joe said.; Come on down to Steve Fosters' jam on a Tues ( @ the San Juan Club San Juan at Sunset 7pm ) Wed. nights @ Louies ( Mather Field rd and Highway 50 8pm) and Sundays @ Louies 2pm-6pm. I'll get you up with a good line-up where you can let your mando sing! I always recommend people to bring their own amps, Etc. as they are familiar with their own gear. But we usually always have an amp available. I even let people use mine sometimes. Looking forward to seeing you and hearing you also! If you sing, that would be a plus but not required. Everyone gets solos and the opportunity to shine at our jams

We had a guy come to a jam at the Torch with a clarinet, very cool. Ken, you might want to bring an amp, we are using a little mini board right now, not sure how many channels we have available. The mando is one of my favorite instruments. Richard, if you wanna hear some great madolin picking check out my friend Sean Barfly with his dynamite band Mind X. www.slapahorecords.comIf you like 5 string electric mandolin check out my band the Bayou Boys. Olen Dillingham doubles on violin and Tiny Moore mandolin and is in the Country Swing Hall of Fame. www.bayouband.com

Yes Sean is a great mando player. We have jammed a few times here and there. I know Olen too, and he is also great

Oh yeah, Johnny Young was a great blues mandolin player. I think he is on the Chicago The Blues Today compilation. I have no idea if it's been reissued on CD.

kenb,
If I can find it I have a great CD - Johnny Young Chicago Blues - on Arhoolie Records, that I'd burn for you. If not, it is available. I originally got the record after seeing Johnny performing with Big Walter at the Maxwell St market in Chicago. The CD/record features Big Walter (harp), James Cotton (harp), Otis Spann, the greatest Chicago blues pianist, and Lafayette Leake, good pianist and great blues organist. I have to admit, I bought it for the sidement but Johnny is a treat on mandolin.
And don't be afraid to come out to jam. Louie's would probably be the best venue to start with.
