As far as cabinets, I have owned SWR, Eden, Mesa Boogie, Fender, Acme, and Peavey. No matter what I tried, my old 110 lb Peavey 4x10 smoked everything. I finally decided to try a lighter cabinet, and stumbled upon www.avatarspeakers.com/ . It is the cheapest, lightest cabinet I could find. I thought about all the times I was lugging my heavy crap up stairs, or in bad load-in gigs and thought, what the hell. And you know what, it kicks ass. Its not the best made cabinet, but then I take care of my stuff. I got the version with the cheap carpet coating. It was just over $400, and its a 4x10 cab that weighs less than 50lbs. I drug it down to guitar center one day and matched it up with a MarkBass 4x10 neo cab, and I could not tell the difference (and I have a good ear). And it was less than half the price. I finally got over my need to have a 'cool' brand for my cabinet. Im glad I did. This <50lb cab will fill up any room that im likely to play. If its a larger room, there will always be PA support. I have never heard anything but compliments about my sound, and that has a lot to do with this cheap cabinet. For me, in a cover band playing Classic Rock / R&B / Blues, this fits the bill. Highly recommended.

Another great deal are GK bass amps. I use a 1001RB ($700 street price), and I have to say its by far tghe best amp I have ever owned. Never heard a bass sound bad through it.

I have always played Ameg stuff. Just kicks butt. 8x10, obviously not the same conversation hear. 4x10 's are sweet too. I could never get into Peavey , you know what they used to say (peeuh watts)! But then I heard this guy playing a peavy cab and that thing was kicking. Christ was I wrong..... I'll have to check the avetar someday...thanks

I've had a bunch of Avatar bass cabs, and they can not be beat for the money. Currently I mostly use a Bergantino HT-322, but I also have a 4 ohm, Avatar Neo 2x10 that handles smaller gigs beautifully, with my Genz Benz Shuttle; a fine piece of gear itself. I've also got an Avatar 4 ohm 2x12 waiting on deck, so to speak. That cab seems to work best with my GK 1001RB. The solid state low end pumps huge! And, just in case, I've got a Peavey Databass; a single 15" combo that puts out 400 watts of guitar-cutting Peavey midrange honk in a ridiculously small package.

Hey Kennan,
I had one of the PV Database combos back in England (like 20 years ago). Noisy little bastards aren't they?! The tone wasn't that great, I used to use a tube preamp to sweeten it a little, but it could fill most rooms with ease. They shoulda kept making 'em, I'd buy another!

A few years ago, I called PV so I could send my Databass in for a fixing, and the tech said "Man we LOVE those amps." I asked why they quit making them and they said it was a matter of "price point"; they didn't want to go head to head with SWR and Hartke on high powered combos.
On their own they don't sound so hot, but they cut through guitars like a hot knife through butter.
Maybe I'll bring it to Po'Boys next month!

I took mine to a sub gig once. Guitarist had a Marshall stack and my Peavey looked ridiculous sat next to it. Guitarist said 'you do realize this is a rock band?'. I never got above half vol the whole gig!
Back on track:
I had an Avatar 2x12 a while back. Great cab for the money, kinda hard to see why we pay so much more for a 'name' cab (unless it's Bergantino or Aguilar, those are exceptions!).
