I'm looking to upgrade from a combo amp (15" speaker, 180 watts) to a 4x10 cab and an amp head. I have two reputable recommendations for the Gallien-Krueger 700RB. Does anyone have an opinion concerning Ashdown amps?
By the way, I heard that the Genz Benz shuttle has great tone, but doesn't get very loud.
Thanks!

Ashdowns have an old school warm tone, but I had reliability issues with mine.
You already know I am sold on GK.

I used to have a ashdown combo, and I had problems with it as well. That was 10 years ago, but its the only Amp that has ever given me trouble.
I still want to get a shuttle, due to the weight and the size. As soon as I get a couple of good $ gigs in a row, Im buying one ( or a lighter power amp )
For the last 10 years I have been doing a preamp/power amp combo. Right now its a BBE BMax pre with a Mackie 1400i power amp. Heavy as hell, but I have headroom forever.

I currently have an Ashdown combo (Electric Blue 15-180) and it has worked fine and sounds good (I've only used it for church and practice). My combo is two years old so they may have improved their quality in the last few years. I think I'm going to go with the GK since I've heard nothing bad about it and I can play it before buying. In fact, I'll probably also go with the new GK Neo410 cab also (as soon as I can save enough nickels ).

I highly recommend the Genz Benz Shuttle. 600watts at four pounds with a tube preamp. Run that through a 4x10, and you'll be more than fine.
Any time I needed to be louder than that, there's usually a huge P.A. to run through and a rented backline!
I also have a GK 1001RBII, and it's a fine head also, but is a back up to the Shuttle.

If you you can afford it, check out a Trace Elliot.
