I used to enjoy searching on Craigslist. I heard about peoples posts getting flagged, and I didnt know what they were talking about.
I saw lots of posts about the blues jam at Louies on Wednesdays. I finally was able to attend a jam session, and I had a fine time. I mad a craigslist post about how I enjoyed myself, and it was deleted (flagged). After making the same post 2 more times, and having it deleted, I desiced that a forum for musicians in Sacramento was needed.
I am looking for people who want to help me moderate this forum, and keep it good. I am not talking about censoring the content, I am talking about deleting jibberish.
Please PM me if interested.
Thanks

I too am tired of being flagged on C/L. I posted a thank you to all the guys who came out to jam at Vega's last Thursday night and was flagged overnight. I'm sure it was "someone" from Po' Boyz(who's name I shall keep to myself), but of course I can't prove it.
Let's stop this crap from continuing by being bigger, and more mature.
If you enjoyed Louie's, you will enjoy the jam at Vega's in Old Sac. I encourage you and anyone you want to bring along to come down and check it out. We start at seven and go until the wings fall off.

I think the language parameters can be fixed in the admin panel, and I think they should be. If I want to say shit or fuck, it may be the only way to say what I have to say.
The posters or, as we should call them, flaggers, are probably frustrated guys that can't get real gigs. I see their point, though flagging posts can't fix the problem. There are so many good bands and players that to get on the map, most will play for free just to get to play. Most of the clubs in Sac pay the bands whatever they take at the door, sometimes minus some expenses, sound, door guys, etc... So you have to have a draw to get paid.
That's okay with me. Its a worth thing. If you want to play professionally someone has to pay to hear or see you. That does make it tough on a new band that has no following. So open for a band with a draw, and get some fans, play your heart out, and promote your stuff. Sell, sell, sell, its the American way.
I stopped posting completely on Craigs list long ago except to promote shows or find players, and I will continue to do so. It works, (though I do need to re-contact the drummer who called me about playing in my band). I flaked, and I'm gonna blame it on the plethora of full moons this season

I fixed the cursing issue, thanks for the tip !!
Now we can say whatever we want. I agree, sometimes you have to call something out and say its fucking bullshit. Some times you cant say it any other way.
If anyone wants to help me moderate this board, please let me know.
Thanks

People who flag positive posts about jams are probably very lonely people. There seems to be a go-nowhere campaign lodged by go-nowhere musicians who have decided that jam sessions and open mics steal gigs and audiences from them. Any working musician knows that Jam sessions and open mics are networking tools. Lord knows in this economy we need all the tools we can get to. And lets admit it, when you've got a sweet working jam going, there's a cool connection that happens between all involved. It's playtime for musicians. We've got smiles on our faces and affection when we're done. It's an easy thing for a pissed off lonely person to be jealous of. As an outspoken supporter of jams and professional musician and cartoonist, my posts were flagged constantly. It got to be a game for me just seeing how long any of my sarcastic razzing would last. Ah the pissed off pee-ons will miss me.

It would be nice if those pissed off lonely people would realize how supportive most of the jammers would be. If it wasnt for supportive Bass Players hosting the Jams up in Humboldt County, I dont know if I would have been as driven to get good. Later, when I was hosting the same Jam, I realized that if someone was playing instead of me, I could sit back and drink more beer. ( But thats another story ) I would still make the jammers feel comfortable, and encourage them on their progress, if there was any progress, from the week before.
There are a lot of people that do not have the guts to leave their house, that probably play quite well.

True enough, Richard. The jams are a perfect place to get your stage legs. Foster and I encourage people to bring theirn whole band out for stage time. Last week we had the marvleous Tyson Graf Band. Right on, fellas.

Bill916,
Maybe it's just me, but you make innuendos about someone from P' Boyz flagging you, then you want to ride Steve Foster's reputation as a reason people should go to a different jam... "If you like Louie's then you'll love the all new and improved..."
If the other jams were as well run as Steve Foster's at Louie's, those at the Torch Club, or were remotely close to the usually good, yet sometimes inconsistent jams at Po' Boyz, musicians will give them plenty of press. I don't need to flag or bad rap any jam. If people aren't coming to a jam there's probably a reason. Well run jams get "A" list players who come back and who tell other musicians; the converse is true for poorly run jams. No need to flag bad jams. Musicians and patrons figure it out real fast.

Well,Dr Blue It seems a quality inviroment, great hosts and pro players who are there to support each other, learn from each other and are passionate and sincere in their relationship with the music and the people involved are keys to success of a jam such as Mr. Fosters @ Louies. I've noticed that the show- offs, attitude kings, and drama queens, are a minority and don't stand up to the test of time as the real people like you and others who share the common bond that goes beyond the stage an spotlights. It's definately shooting yourself in the foot by slamming other venues, people as it will come back to haunt you

Tug- I agree. C.L is pretty lame sometimes with the ignorance and bullshit. It's a bit old, even though I find it entertaining at times because we mature adults know the truth. Those losers on CL have a sense of power, I suppose, hiding behind their computer keypads and not caring if they get flagged cause if they pulled that crap in public, good chance they'd get tagged. Networking in public at the jams and other music events has always been the best source for me in finding band -mates and bonding with real people who maturely can express their likes and dislikes. Whiners, however, will be fined.

Wow, it looks like the freaks are all riled up on Craigslist again !!
I would love for one of those freaks to come here and make a post. Im sure they mean what they are saying, it would be interesting getting into a dialog with someone like that.
But, usually they like hiding behind their mini-blinds while wearing a bathrobe

Im sure they mean what they are saying, it would be interesting getting into a dialog with someone like that. But, usually they like hiding behind their mini-blinds while wearing a bathrobe The negativity surrounding Blues Jams listed on Craigslist began with a debate over whether the word 'Pro' should be used in the Blues Jam context. There are arguments from both sides, but what it comes down to is that Blues is a simple music using just 3 chords and 12 bars. When 'Pro' is used in the title, there is an implication that the word gives them the right to be selective over who gets to play, and who doesn't. The supporters of the 'Pro' title then go on to say that they have to be selective over who is allowed to Jam so that the audience will remain satisfied. The thing is, an audience does not know and/or does not care about the difference between 'Pro' and 'non-Pro' playing. These same 'Pro' Jams would probably have excluded Robert Johnson had they been given the chance to simply because he "missed the I-IV change" by two bars. It no longer becomes a Jam when players are turned away, instead becoming a regular Blues gig with the same familiar featured guests...over and over again.
