When i first started playing music back in the 80's i did it because of the love of music(and hot chics) back then i would play anywhere any time for no pay. Then as i gained experience it became a business and i demanded that any club i play compensate me. for the most part i have always played for a cut or all of the door money and most club owners like that arrangement. That way if i don't do my job as a promoter of my band (bring lots of thirsty people) then i don't get paid. Nowadays i don't play out much and when i do its usually for free(because i love music) funny how things come full circle(where did the chics go) Not saying you should never play for free but when i see a venue that has more than enough money to pay the band asking for handouts it kind of ticks me off. I have always played original music(except on easter at the hippie jam) and i have done very well. I book and promote all of my own shows that way i can pick bands that work hard and bring people to the club, everyone is happy and i get laid oops i mean Paid.

Is that in some little town I can't remember the name of, but it is a "you can't get there from here" kind of place? I went to a party decades ago down there somewhere, sounds like the same thing.

heck, i wont move a finger unless i'm getting a dollar What about an Open Mic though? For someone who only has a limited amount of material it is the only option. Jazz Guitarist Wes Montgomery said that in order to be a guitarist capable of playing an actual concert, one had to be able to play guitar for one whole hour without just repeating oneself. Also, if you are not being paid to play it is permission to do drugs before you play and not have to worry about 'delivering'. Drugs are a necessary part of music, but should not be done to the point of not being able to hold onto the guitar. I like a singer to be so high that he or she needs to be brought onto the stage in a wheelchair....that is where the art happens. Soberness just ruins music. I have nothing against anyone that wants to smoke some weed but to say you need to be high to make music is plain stupid. "Soberness just ruins music", another stupid comment. You need to go away dude - SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to go away dude - SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does that mean you are prepared to throw away all your Beatles records? They were really fucking high when they made their music. Starting on speed type drugs for all early recordings, they then progressed to weed on 'Rubber Soul' and started taking LSD throughout the 'Revolver' and 'Sgt. Peppers' recording sessions. They moved onto heroin after that. John Lennon took over 1,000 LSD trips. That highness was translated into the music. God is called the Most High because Jesus was a stoner....[glow=red,2,300] a shroom head.[/glow] I know we have chatted about this before. Again I have nothing against someone who wants to smoke weed, do drugs, drink, rub the ole' ball sack, whatever, but to say you cannot write a decent song unless doing the above is stupid in my oppinion. Oh, since you have so much insight on how The Beatles created music, please tell us all how the studio sessions where. I would love to know. Apparently you where there or did you read that in one of your school books.

LOL
Some of my best, and worst music was created while under the influence of drugs. The only problem, is when it was the best music, no one else 'understood'. I was the only person who realized how 'good' the music was when I was all ###### up.
I agree, saying you have you do drugs to relate to people is just plain stupid ( in my opinion ). Thats like saying you have to be fat to talk to people about dieting. Soberness ruins music ? I dont think so.
I like getting stoned, and/or drunk when I play, but I always play better when im straight. No matter how many times I try and convince myself otherwise. That doesnt mean its not fun to play when you are ###### up, it just means that you are usually on an island all by yourself, enjoying your music all alone.

Lots of stories about how something sounded great when you were stoned, but like crap when you were sober. Also lots of stories about great players who lost everything because of alcohol and drugs.
If the music ain't gettin you high by itself, may you done be doing it wrong!?.

If the music ain't gettin you high by itself, may you done be doing it wrong!?. No one said that the music does not get the player high, but rather that a combination of drugs amd music often is where it is at. You combine the music, the LSD, the cannabis, and the alcohol in order to form an ultimate trip. [shadow=red,left,300]Music potentiates the drug, just as the drug potentiates the music.[/shadow] Music comes from God, in order to tap into God directly then drugs are needed. If someone is too scared to take drugs, then it shows they are also too scared to take risks within their music. Fear is the only reason someone doesn't do drugs to begin with. Unlike what Kenb wildly claims, drugs do not kill brain cells. In fact, the drugs often create new synapse connections within the structure of the brain and can help to link different areas of the brain together for increased mental power. You must be digging deep into the bag now.

That it the stupidest thing I have ever heard in my life. The only 'extra' connection you are making is your neck, and your sphincter. That is due to your head being totally up your ass. Of course, I mean no offense

You know, I'll kinda agree that a few beers and a fattie will enhance a show, sometimes; I find more of a rush, playing with the band and feeding off of the energy of the crowd and saving the major partying til after the gig
