First off, I have never played a gig for free. Secondly, I am ashamed that I am asking other musicians to play for free (initially).
That being said, I want to put together a band that plays once a month at a bar in Colfax.
I am a bass player / singer and I am quite accomplished. I can sing 3 sets of songs, and I play well.
I live in Colfax, and I want to have a place that I play every month, where friends and family can come and watch me play and have a good time. The owner of the bar said that he will try out a new band, and pay them in food and beer, and allow us to have a tip jar. After he sees how good we are, he will then negotiate a price. I doubt it will be very much, but time will tell. I need a keyboard player, or a lead guitar player, or a harmonica/multi instrumental player, and/or a female player/vocalist to join up. I know a drummer that wants to play 100%, and a ryhthm guitar player that wants to play. The rhythm guitar player may or may not be included, depending on the configuration that ends up happening.
Im wanting to put together a ....
* 4 piece band with drums, bass, guitar, and harmonica/multi instrument player.
* 4 piece band with drums, bass, rhythm guitar, and lead guitar
* 3 piece band with drums, bass, lead guitar - "power trio"
* 4 piece band with drums, bass, guitar, and female vocals/instrument
* 4 piece band with bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards
* anything that involves me, and a great drummer.
.... I think you get the drift. I have a drummer that wants to play, and I want to put together a band around the rhythm section. No offense, but I do not want to deal with beginners. I can sit in with virtually every band in the Sacramento area, and hold my own decently. I am 40 years old, I am at least at a Semi-Pro level, and I wand to find musicians of the same caliber. I want people who have played gigs of all kinds, and know what to do, but dont want to play all the time. I know there are lots of you out there that still want to play, but dont want to practice all the time. You used to play bars all over the place 15 years ago, but you dont want to commit to a full time band with tons of practices. Practicing is for pussies. Im talking about putting together a group of like minded, cover band people, and practicing ONCE. And after that, we gig once or twice a month, and have a good time. I have sat in with bands without practicing, and had some of my best gigs ever.
Im not trying to 'take over the world' and gig all the time, I have already done that. I want to play near home, and at the most expand to Nevada City. If you need to hear examples of my work, EMail me and I will send you some sound clips. But when requesting my samples, please provide samples of your own.
If this sounds like something that interests you, please respond to this post.
Thanks for reading my rambling, have a good one.
