Hello Friends, I'm sad to report that after four years of employment hosting Louies Wednesday Night Jam that I'm moving on. I have forged wonderful relations there with many great musicians from our community and with the neighborhood regulars who have supported us faithfully. The camraderie and fellowship have been nothing short of magic. Louie is very sick and smack dab in the middle of a fight for his life with chemotherapy and my prayers go out for him and his family. The moco group will be the new host at the jam. I have absolutely no affiliation of any kind with this group. Not to worry, the old saying is: when one door closes, another one opens. After we take in the holiday break looks like we'll be starting again the first Wednesday after New Years Day. Thanks again to all of you who have made the jam what it was. You guys are the best! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Steve 276-9170

A no-so-little bird told me about this yesterday, Steve, and I admire your positive attitude. Then again, I'm guessing that you'd find a way to stay upbeat if you were up to your neck in alligators - which is a pretty good analogy for some blues jams I've been to. Somebody actually has to run a jam, and you've always managed to make it look easy. For myself, the difference between a good jam and a so-so jam has less to do with how much soloing I do and more with getting a chance to meet and play with people I enjoy and respect, and your jams always seem to foster (unintentional) an environment where that magic can happen. I look forward to the next chapter. Back to Louie's, I wish the MOCO folks luck. Even though I don't know any of the co-op principals personally, I'll admit that I'm confounded by their mission statement. No matter how egalitarian your goals may be, I think you're doing a disservice to aspiring players if you deny that there is a finite ratio of venues to musicians in any region. I humbly submit that there is no substitute for the hardscrabble experience of dealing with club owners, bartenders, promoters, doormen, other bandmembers, etc., if you want to succeed as a club-circuit musician. Players who want more out of the music business have to earn it. I know Steve's earned it!
