So my GK 1001RB started crapping out again over the weekend, being almost useless by my last shift on Sunday.
Having a gig Monday had me pondering what to do, but what I decided was I really need a back up amp, bass amps do fail.
Not having a lot of money, I figured I would get something barely adequate for my regular gigs, maybe something suited to coffee houses and rehearsals. So I go to GC, thinking maybe I would get a Berhinger, but the first thing I saw was an Acoustic B200H for around $250. Plugged it into an Acoustic 2x10, grabbed a handy P Bass. I was less than knocked out by the sound, reminded me of my old Acoustic from the 70s with nice low mids but brittle highs.
But I knew I needed to do something quick so I plunked down the dough.
So I took it to the gig and plugged it into my 4 x10. After spending a few minutes with the notch filter and the EQ I got a pretty good sound, but as the gig progressed I fine tuned it until it really sounded good!! Very tight defined lows, and nice fat notes on the high strings. Very old school, not tons of sparkley highs, but very workable.
It being a jam, my friend Jim came in with a nice P bass. Now Jim used to own a bass store, has played through tons of good gear.
He plugged in and was blown away!!! Said he might go pick one up today.
All in all a nice surprise, when I get the GK back, who knows if it will be #1 or #2.
