A Placer County man has been arrested after he broke into a shuttered bar, reopened the business and started selling drinks to unwitting customers, according to the Placer County Sheriff's department. The Placer County Sheriff's department arrested 29-year-old Travis Kevie of Newcastle after his 4-day stint as the barkeep of the historic Valencia Club in Penryn which had been shutdown for more than a year. Detective Jim Hudson became suspicious after reading about the Valencia Club's re-opening in a newspaper article that featured a picture of Kevie and identified him as the club's new "owner/operator". Not only had Detective Hudson had previous run-ins with Kevie, he knew the Valencia Club's liquor license had been surrendered. When Detective Hudson went to the bar to investigate, he found it open for business and customers at the bar. Kevie quickly went from behind the bar to behind bars. Deputies describe Kevie as a transient. They say he broke into the Valencia Club and put an open sign in the window on July 16th. Kevie kicked off his business with a six-pack of beer he bought and resold at the club. He used his profits to buy more alcohol keeping the club open throughout the weekend serving about 30 customers a day, deputies say. Kevie is being held in the Placer County Jail for burglary and selling alcohol without a license. cbs13.com/local/penryn.bar.arrest.2.1817120.html

Seems to me, Kevie has the spirit to do something with his life, just needs a little polish in his approach... :-) The Valencia has been closed for six weeks, be damn careful about anything you read or hear on the local news scene, they don't know shit and are obviously too god damn lazy to fact check their stories...

I couldnt believe this when I read it, thats good stuff.
I like the part where a customer wanted corona, and he ran to the store across the street and bought some.

update!!!!! A Placer County man arrested after he allegedly broke into a shuttered bar, reopened for business and started selling drinks says he was just trying to do his best...and that was part of the problem. Travis Kevie has had four days in jail to reflect on his misguided initiative. "I was trying to do my best. I wasn't trying to take advantage," said Kevie just hours after he was released from jail. "I'm never really sure what I'm doing. I'm always trying to do my best." Travis Kevie admits he originally broke into the landmark Penryn bar called the Valencia Club and started cleaning it up. Kevie's work ethic is what caused some confusion. The property manager came by and assumed the hard worker had been hired by someone else and gave Kevie permission to stay and do more work. But the property manager never gave permission to open the bar. Travis says he assumed the next step after cleaning would be to open for business. He bought a six-pack of beer and sold it. He reinvested the money, bought more alcohol and built up business over four days. His illegal escapades have gained Travis a lot of media attention and some supporters. While he says he kind of likes being in the limelight, what he really wants is his job back at the Valencia Club. While the property manager says that isn't going to happen, he does say if the bar were to re-open legally, he would recommend Travis based on his work ethic. Since in the confusion, Travis was given permission to be on the property, the only charge he's facing now is misdemeanor selling of alcohol.
