Needing to put together set of 70s music - just piano/vocal. Out of my element here, so far have We've Only Just Begun and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Have done Feelin' Groovy before, is that from the 70s? Rain Drops Keep Falin' On My Head have done...
Need upbeat and fun songs!!! Help a sista out please; suggestions?

"Feelin Groovey" is from a 1966 Simon and Garfunkel album. "Raindrops" was a Burt Bacharach(sp?) song for the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. BJ Thomas reorded it in the late 60's, I think it was 1969. I think those two fit in well with the others you mentioned. They were both very popular on AM radio and probably wil be remembered by your audience. I've performed both of those songs when I was in high school. All I can say is I'm glad we didn't have youtube in those days!!LOL!!

" All I can say is I'm glad we didn't have youtube in those days!!LOL!! Ain't that the truth! Just sent something from youtube to a composer friend of mine where someone was totally murdering her song and thinking they were rockin' in ;-) Thanks for the input. Read your previous posts, email me if you would consider playing with me (for kicks) in one of my church venues sometime - I do some 'dark' stuff A good instrumentalist can add a lot!

There's a lot of 70's piano stuff to mine - Carole King's Tapestry album would yield a solid half-hour! Leon Russell's Tightrope, Dr. John's Such a Night, I'd enjoy a keys version of Mr. Bojangles, Billy Preston's Will It Go Round in Circles. Outside of Hornsby, I can't single out a "troubadour" type pianist from this era who has a signature style - seems like you're in a band, or you're not playin' - whereas I can name at least a few more from the 70's whose sound I recognize immediately.

Those were very popular songs back in the day. It seemed to me there were 2 main different "popular" music worlds in the early 70's. At least in my experience living in Sacramento. Nowadays there's 100's, but back then there was the AM Pop-bublegum hits, and the FM world. There were some crossovers in both those worlds, but mostly they were different worlds. I can remember when KZAP, the first major Sac FM rock station, went on the air and they only had a few sponsors, like "Whitefront." They'd play everything from Jimi Hendrix, and Frank Zappa, to Ravi Shankar. None of which would be heard on AM radio, except maybe in the bay area. I think alot of people listened to both. Back then cars usually only came with AM radios. So, if you were a poor kid who couldn't afford to put an 8 track player in your car, but had a home stereo, you listened to AM in the car and FM at home. Looking back, that was probably a good thing. I listened to alot of different stuff which lead to interests in all kinds of music.
