Hello everyone,
I started a project back in October called, "Jam with Mylar!"
IJWM! began at the Torch Club last October and I started doing it in SF at the Connecticut Yankee. They liked it so much, I'll be back there on 3/31. I'm also starting an all ages JWM! on 3/10 at Strings Pizzeria.
JWM! at the Torch is usually every 2nd Tuesday, during happy hour. The next JWM! at the Torch is Tuesday, 2/14. I've got a full sked for this one, but I can usually squeeze more people in, if necessary.
JWM! is a little different than an open jam session or open mike. The idea is to bring some seasoned vets and newbies together on stage. All of the music is unrehearsed. Participants email greta@mylarville.com and let us know which JWM! they are interested in and a few songs they want to do. Original music is encouraged, but covers work, too. Some people just want to play their instrument with us and some budding songwriters would like to hear what their music would sound like, performed by others.
I usually have a core group and so far all of the JWM!s have been semi-acoustic with some percussion, but no drum kits. Hopefully, as interest grows, I can expand JWM! to full-on band arrangements.
I, or the core group and I, start off the show with a few tunes and then I bring each guest artist or artists up to do their thing with me and a couple other musicians, who can help make the guest shine. So far we've had some really great music going on. There is so much undiscovered talent around and it is a treat for me and audiences to see and hear them perform. Sometimes I have established artists show up, who, like me, would rather be up on stage playing instead of watching.
Jam with Mylar! is a lot of fun and it doesn't cost the guest artists anything to show their stuff. Sometimes, they get free beverages and such. Most people who know me, know I'm always good for a free drink! ;-D
Please check out the Mylarville.com calendar for JWM! info and contact greta@mylarville.com if you are interested. JWM! is a great way for novices to try out their stuff with some really good musicians and for pros to network. Mostly, I want JWM! to be about musicians coming together for musical conversation and fun!
